Read the introduction, or chapter 1, in Herlihy’s book before or during the travel, oo, xi-xv.

REQUIREMENTS:
Apart from a general interest in history, culture, and literature, particularly pertaining to the Middle Ages, this course is open to all undergraduate students who have completed at least one semester.

COURSE LEVEL AND TITLE:
This course will be officially offered as a Tier 2 course (Individuals and Society), as German 278 (cross-listed with History), or as German 392: Directed Research.  Course material and course outcome are also applicable to a wide range of Gen.Ed. requirements, including history, literature, art history, women’s study, etc., in consultation with the respective advisors. Depending on the student’s interest in having this course counting toward specific requirements, the workload will differ accordingly.

Grade: 1. active participation in class; 2. active participation in all excursions; 3. keeping a journal: ca. 2 pp. per day, dealing with our readings and the excursions.
