VSI

Dr. Eung-Joo Lee is the director of the Vision, Systems and Intelligence Lab (VSI). He is a tenure-track assistant professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Arizona. Additionally, he is currently a faculty member at the BIO5 Institute, UA Cancer Center, and Center for Semiconductor Manufacturing at the University of Arizona. He will also be serving as an adjunct professor voluntarily in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln starting in August 2024.

Before joining the University of Arizona, Dr. Lee was a postdoctoral research fellow at MGH/Harvard Medical School. He completed his Ph.D. in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park, under the guidance of Professor Shuvra S. Bhattacharyya. During his doctoral studies, he engaged in a research internship at the U.S. Army Research Laboratory.

Research Interests

The Vision Systems and Intelligence (VSI) Laboratory was established in 2023 with the primary objective of researching computer vision, medical image analysis, and deep learning. 

We aim to develop deep learning systems that utilize computationally efficient models designed specifically for embedded computer vision systems and medical imaging applications. Our focus extends to exploring the development of intelligent systems for a diverse range of applications, including unmanned vehicles, face analysis, hyperspectral imaging, and surgical AI systems.

Further, we actively foster interdisciplinary collaboration within the domains of computer vision and medical imaging.
