Research Professor
Gregory Ogden, Ph.D., P.E.
Greg Ogden has over 30 years’ experience in process design, facility management, environmental remediation and novel technology development. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Washington in 1986, his Master’s Degree from the University of Colorado in 1988, and his Doctorate of Science degree from the University of Arizona in 2002. All three degrees are in Chemical Engineering. Dr. Ogden is registered as a Professional Engineer (Chemical) in Arizona.
For the past 10 years, Dr. Ogden has managed the Unit Operations Laboratories for the department and mentored interdisciplinary senior design projects for both the College of Engineering and the department. Dr. Ogden has extensive design, fabrication, and data acquisition/controls experience through his involvement in numerous federally funded research projects in propulsion, high-temperature combustion, biofuels and algal research.
He is the Manager and Founder of Ogden Engineering & Associates, LLC and has served as the Project Manager for multiple SBIR/STTR Phase I and Phase II projects involving the development of hypergolic green fuels, evaluating their insensitive munitions (IM) characteristics, converting crop seed oils to jet fuel and designing high-temperature, high-pressure reactors for characterizing thermal decomposition of concentrated hydrogen peroxide.

Undergraduate Students
Madeline Dailey
Madeline is a junior at the University of Arizona, currently pursuing her bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering with a minor in materials science engineering. She was born in Maryland but has lived in Oro Valley, AZ most of her life. Her primary research interest is renewable energy, and she is currently working with Dr. Greg Ogden on a compact system to evaluate/quantify the impact of system temperature on energy output of a new class of LED lasers. The Temperature dependence (if any) will be modeled and integrated into an in-line optical sensor for monitoring algae growth. Outside of academics, she enjoys playing the piano, traveling with family, and just being outside (biking, swimming, walking, reading).
Chemical Engineering B.S. Candidate
Richard Lu
Richard is a third year student pursuing his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Arizona. His research interests include avionics, solar thermal propulsion systems and the integration of software into space systems design. From Tucson, Richard enjoys rainy days, overcast skies and places with better weather than Tucson.
