Solar Thermal Propulsion
This work involves the design of collectors that concentrate solar irradiation and direct it to a injector to create superheated steam that produces thrust when exiting the nozzle. This research is focused on Material Selection and configuration of the injector as well as collector design.
Water Hydrolysis for Space Applications
Hydrolysis is a proven technology on earth for splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen. However under low gravity conditions, conventional wetted-plate hydrolysis is impractical. Our research is evaluating the use of reversible PEM fuel cells to produce and both hydrogen and oxygen for collection/storage and use as propellants for space-based refueling.
Hot-Fire Engine Test Stand
This work involves the design and fabrication of a modular test stand suitable for test firing rocket engines up to 500 lb thrust.
Upper Stage Tank Development
Upper Stage Tank Development: As part of this Phase II STTR effort, we continue supporting Exquadrum’s efforts to develop an oxidizer tank for the company’s Bantum Rocket Affordable SLV Stage (BRASS) rocket. Includes design, fabrication and hydro proofing of light-weight rocket tanks.
