Congratulations to MS student Will McCraine, who was awarded a 2025 GSA Graduate Student Research Grant for $2000.
Will’s research proposal is entitled “Resolving the timing of ductile deformation in the Catalina-Rincon Mountains”. The goal is to better constrain the timing of ductile deformation in the Catalina-Rincon Mountains near Tucson, Arizona. Will is establishing consistent field criteria to identify undeformed rocks, and then establishing timing using geochronology of cross-cutting intrusions. U-Th-Pb geochronology will be used on zircons and/or monazites derived from undeformed mafic and felsic intrusive samples and one augengneiss sample to constrain the timing of ductile deformation. Will’s research is co-advised by Jonny Wu and Paul Kapp.
