Dr. Dean Riley is Director of the University of Arizona’s Mine Hyperspectral Research Consortium and MIINERS Laboratory. He earned a B.S. in Geology from Oregon State University, and a M.S. and Ph.D. in Geological Sciences from The Ohio State University. His research primarily focuses on rock, mineral, and ore deposit characterization in mining, mineral resources, and geological sciences and engineering. He uses tools such as imaging spectroscopy at a variety scales (sub-millimeter to over 60 m) and data science to address these topics.
Prior to arriving at the University of Arizona in 2022, he spent over 20 years working on advanced research and development using hyperspectral sensors across from the visible through longwave infrared portion of the electromagnetic spectrum for the United States Government, a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC), and several DoD/IC contractors.
