Gallery of 3-D Vocal Tract Shapes

MRI: The images shown in the pdf are three-dimensional reconstructions of 22 static vocal tract shapes corresponding to vowels and consonants of American English. In addition, reconstructions of the trachea are displayed at the bottom of the page.

CT: The images shown in the pdf are three-dimensional reconstructions of 2 static vocal tract shapes corresponding to the vowels /i/ “heat” and /a/ “hot.”

The images were acquired from one adult male and one adult female. At the time of scanning, the male was 29 years old, 5 foot 7 inches tall and weighed 145 pounds. The female was 27 years old, 5 foot 2 inches tall and weighed 120 pounds. The male is a native of the midwestern United States while the female is a native of Texas.
