Mary Ahern

Graduate Associate

I am originally from Scottsdale, Arizona. After receiving a Bachelor of Science in Public Health from U of A, I began work as a nutrition educator and fell in love with the science of nutrition. I eventually returned to school to complete my dietetics classes, get my MS in Nutrition, and become a Registered Dietitian. As a master’s student, I began my first research project in the field of Precision Nutrition and became fascinated with its emphasis on understanding the complicated relationships between nutrition, metabolism, human variability, and disease. After spending almost two years working at the NIH as a research fellow, I knew it was time for me to return to school for my Ph.D. As a Ph.D. student, my research focus lies at the intersection of nutrition and data science by leveraging multi-omics and big-data approaches to improve nutrition research. In my free time, you can find me cooking, reading, hiking, planning my wedding (!), or walking my golden retriever Lucy.
