What is AGC? 

The Associated General Contractors (AGC) – University of Arizona Chapter is dedicated to advancing knowledge about the construction industry and fostering relationships with the construction industry. 

This goal will be facilitated through active participation and interaction of Student Chapter members with: 

● Local Arizona Builders Alliance and Associated General Contractor professionals and corporations. 

● Students and faculty in design and construction-related disciplines. 

● Local professional organizations representing architecture, engineering, landscape architecture, general contracting, law and government. 

● National AGC programs and services. 

The Student Chapter strives to develop strong working partnerships between students and industry professionals to advance education and research objectives required for the continued growth and excellence of construction.

Heavy Civil Competition 

The DBIA – UA Chapter is involved in a number of design-build competitions throughout the year.

Associated Schools of Construction Region 6 Competition includes numerous construction-related competitions including heavy civil. This event is held in Reno, NV during the first week in February. Student teams have one day to prepare a written response and a presentation on a heavy civil project selected and prepared by Industry professionals. This premier event is attended by 53 universities from 21 states. Over 1,500 students participate, interact and network with over 1,400 industry professionals from 104 companies. The competition is followed by a mega-career fair.

Southern Arizona Construction Career Days

The AGC Arizona Chapter assists with Southern Arizona Construction Career Days each fall. This event is organized by contractors and construction-related organizations. Middle and high school students in southern Arizona are invited to come to this event to learn more about careers in construction and explore dozens of hands-on experiences.

Beavers Scholarship 

The Beavers Heavy Construction Endowed Scholarship Fund at The University of Arizona was established in 1998 by the Beavers Charitable Trust. Scholarships are awarded annually to selected students pursuing careers in heavy construction. learn more about careers in heavy construction at the Beavers web site. 

Bill Lloyd ABA Scholarship 

This scholarship was established by the Southern Division of the Arizona Builder’s Alliance (ABA) in honor of Bill Lloyd, chief executive and founder of Lloyd Construction, who passed away in 2007. Bill Lloyd received a BS degree in civil engineering from UA in 1963 and his company, Lloyd Construction, has constructed and renovated many building on the University of Arizona campus and in the Tucson community. Scholarships are awarded annually to selected students pursuing careers in construction.
