The Human-Animal Bond Lab (HAB Lab) is an interdisciplinary research group located in the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Arizona, opened in Fall 2023.

Led by Dr. Kerri Rodriguez, our research explores the mechanisms, outcomes, and implications of the human-animal bond for human and animal wellbeing. We seek to understand how positive interactions with animals – including those with companion, therapy, facility, and service animals – may lead to therapeutic benefits among vulnerable populations. Our lab collaborates with experts from various disciplines, including veterinary medicine, psychology, and animal behavior, to create a multidisciplinary approach to studying the human-animal bond.
