Biography

Jake Harwood (Ph.D., University of California, Santa Barbara) is Professor of Communication at the University of Arizona. His research focuses on intergroup communication and music as a form of communication. He is interested in how intergroup contact (in various forms) affects prejudice and stereotyping of social groups. His research draws on theories of intergroup contact, social identity, and communication accommodation. His recent journal publications have appeared in Media Psychology, Health Communication, and Psychology of Music. He is the author/editor of seven books, and is a Fellow of the International Communication Association.

Teaching

My main teaching interests are in the area of quantitative/experimental research methods and statistics, communication and music, communication and aging, and intergroup communication. I teach undergraduate and graduate courses in these areas.
