The Manufacturing and Design Exploration (MADE) Lab is a research group in the Department of Systems and Industrial Engineering at the University of Arizona led by Dr. Hannah Budinoff. We are located on UArizona’s main campus in Tucson, Arizona.
Please read below to learn about the types of research and projects we work on in the MADE Lab.
Design for Mfg & Sustainability
We study design constraints inherent to different manufacturing processes.
We use computational geometry approaches, manufacturing process simulation, and machine learning methods to bring manufacturing information into early design process stages, predicting cost and environmental impact
Engineering Design Process.
We study how the design process can efficiently operate at the human-technology frontier, drawing on methods from human factors engineering.
We seek to understand how design tools and design methods can promote more efficient design decision making.
Additive Manufacturing
Engineering Education
Engineering design practices are typically first learned in undergraduate courses.
We study how to promote skill and identity development for engineering students, with a focus on inclusivity, especially in the context of teamwork, makerspaces, and prototyping.
